About Lynn and Corey
We're a mother-daughter team whose passion is to help people green up their celebrations. Through creativity, laughter and collaboration, we're here to show that learning to be green during holidays and celebrations can be easy, affordable and fun for the whole family. Read more about Lynn and Corey.
Corey: I'm a wife and the mother of two children ages eight and five. I'm also an eco-preneur, a writer and a licensed marital and family therapist / clinical art therapist. As you would suspect, my passions include all things green and healthy. I especially enjoy helping parents and parents-to-be create healthy and eco-wise lifestyles, regardless of how much money they make, how much time they have and whether or not they're already eco-savvy.
Lynn: I'm married to the most incredible man (going on 40 years), mom of three grown children and a grandma (Abba) to four. I care about what happens to our grandchildren and future generations of our family, but I also, like most moms, am concerned about the survival of all children and of our planet. Ambition has never fueled me and neither has money. Rather, what matters to me is being fully engaged in whatever work I'm doing. That's why I've taken a crack at a dizzying mix of occupations from freelance writer, to Lamaze childbirth instructor, to children's clothing designer, to PR and corporate communications and, for the last three years, life coach.

6 Simple Tips on Celebrating Green
Plan ahead. You're most likely to find what you need and at a better price than when you decide at the last minute that you want to use say, beeswax birthday candles!
Buy organic for food items that contain the most pesticides, and conventional for the rest of the menu. Find the "Dirty Dozen" here.
Avoid buying new, virgin paper items. Borrow, purchase thrift store items, or if you must purchase new, look for tableware, plates etc. made from recycled, compostable materials.
Go with natural decor. Take your family or best friend on a hunt in your yard or nearby where you can collect (legally of course), appropriate items like leaves, shells, rocks, branches, flowers etc.
Think about how you can put meaning in the greening. A couple of ideas--invite guests to bring a plate from home with the story of how they got it. Then share the stories at the party. Instead of gifts, ask guests to bring donation to a food bank or to make a contribution to a charity.
Send guests home with consumables like food items, seeds or items handmade from something which otherwise would have been tossed.

Our Fun Eco-Celebration Ideas
Doodles for Dinner. The next time you host a family get-together or birthday party, leave the linen and lace in the closet, and the disposal plastic tablecloths at the store. Instead cover your table with an inexpensive white cotton tablecloth. Then supply everyone, kids and adults, with fabric markers and let them create a keepsake.
Shop Craft Sales. Buy homemade gifts from private venders at your loal craft sales. You never know what inexpensive and unique treasures you might find. I've discovered many eco-friendly items made from recycled buttons, bottle caps, soft drink cartons and library index or file cards.
Eco-Easter. We've used the same Easter basket, plastic eggs and grass for 8 years now. My son loves the idea of digging out the goodies and leaving them for the Easter bunny to re-fill and hide.
Birthday Journal-ing. Each year I circulate a special spiral-bound, decorative notebook amongst family and friends for my son's birthday. It becomes part of the celebration as they write individual birthday messages to him. Each year it's fun to flip through and see who's contributed. Even his school friends sign their names.
Nature Tree. If you're just getting started with your very first Christmas tree, consider going ornament-less. My cousin's family embarks on a special holiday nature hunt each year. They fill their bags with berries, cones twigs and other unusual finds to decorate their tree with. Strings of popcorn would be a fun, natural addition as well.
