It’s the little things that matter . . . A cherished recipe passed on from your grandmother, watching your child experiment with finger paint for the first time, a special dessert your family begs you to make over and over, or making time to squish play dough with your toddler.

Fall & Thanksgiving Art II

Big & Small - Collect a large and small leaf from each tree. Press the leaves between two large books to flatten them. Place the larger leaves on the table. Place the smaller leaves in a box. Ask your child to select a leaf from the box and match it to its partner on the table.

Listen to Leaves - Take the children outside to watch the leaves fall from the trees. Remind them to look at the leaves and listen to them too.

Leaf Prints - Using watercolors, paint one side of the leaf. Press onto white paper. This leaves a beautiful print.

Leaf Catchers - Take coffee filters and cut into the shapes of leaves. Provide cups of liquid watercolors in orange, yellow, red, and brown. You can use water and food dye. Have children use eye droppers to place watercolors on the filter leaves. The colors blend together for wonderful fall leaves.

Sing Leaves are Falling
(Sung to the tune of London Bridge)
All the leaves are falling down
Falling down, falling down.
All the leaves are falling down,
It is fall time.
They are yellow, red and brown,
Red and brown, red and brown.
They are yellow, red and brown.
It is fall time.
Take the leaves and crunch them up,
Crunch them up, crunch them up.
Take the leaves and crunch them up.
It is fall time.

Fall Wreath - Cut out the middle of a large paper plate. Let the children paint the paper plate in a fall color. When it is completely dry, glue fall items onto the plate, such as leaves, acorns, pumpkin seeds, etc. Attach a loop of yarn for a beautiful fall wreath.

Leaf Rubbing - Place various leaves under a piece of white paper. Have the children rub crayons over the leaves leaving an imprint.

Sing Leaves Turn
(Sung to the tune of Wheels on the Bus)
Give each child a paper leaf for the movement portion.
The leaves on the trees turn orange and brown, orange and brown, orange and brown.
The leaves on the trees turn orange and brown, all through the town.
The leaves on the trees come tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down.
The leaves on the trees coming tumbling down, all through the town.
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish. Swish, swish, swish. Swish, swish, swish.
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish, all through the town.

Explore Fall - Bring in a basket of gourds, Indian corn, acorns, pine cones and any other fall items. Examine them with a magnify glass.
